"Someday, I'll Visit My Favorite City With My Favorite Person"
New York City with my Bestie!
Posting this on my birthday, which I started celebrating about a month ago in NYC with my best friend. We met there for five days of walking, eating, talking, and LOTS of laughs!

We stayed at the Omni Berkshire Place Hotel, which we loved, mostly because we got free room service coffee every day. Such a huge bonus! They also had an outdoor (not quite rooftop) deck that we got to enjoy, alone. It had a cool view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and some other building that was very sparkly (we never figured out what it was).

We walked and walked, between 22,000-29,000 steps a day. We ate SO MANY DESSERTS. We went to see a taping of Late Night with Seth Meyers, where I caught a T-shirt from the warm-up comic, then gave to Lisa as a souvenir. They gave us a coupon to the NBC store, and I got myself an SNL shirt featuring the original cast. I’m wearing it today and I love it.
We were supposed to see Book of Mormon, but the theater caught on fire two days before, and the show was canceled. We didn’t know this until after we went to an early dinner, then arrived to find nobody outside the theater, signs on the doors, and the distinct smell of fire still hanging in the air. We made the most of it by changing back into our walking shoes and heading to Central Park, which we would have missed out on otherwise.

I love Central Park, and hadn’t been since 2018, the last time I visited NYC. We got to walk for quite a bit, then test out the swings before heading to the upper west side for a bit. On our way out, Lisa turned and said, loudly enough for him to hear, “That guy back there just turned to follow us.” It was the only moment in our whole five days where I considered my safety for a moment, and I wasn’t having it. I stopped on purpose, digging in my pocket for something to throw in the trash, lingering long enough to stare him down. Funny how he turned away from us then.

We got to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, have a great Italian lunch, visit the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and Prospect Park, then walk the neighborhoods until we needed to get the subway back for dinner. The weather was so great, and we love walking so much, that we didn’t manage to make it to any museums, though we had planned to. I’m so glad we agree that when the weather cooperates, we have to take advantage of it. The museums will be there another time!

All in all, it was a perfect trip, if only too short! I can never spend enough time in New York—or with Lisa. It sucks living states away from my best friend, but it’s been fun working on this today and revisiting these memories. Thanks for reading!
